GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

NORTHEAST MIDDLE SCHOOL

August 25, 2008

5:00 p.m.

 

Meeting was called to order at 5:06 p.m. by President Monica Shockency.  Roll call of officers:  Char Beyel, Pam Durand, Monica Shockency, and Business Agent, Tom Burke.   Absent:  Ivy Dumas (called), Vicki Hamilton (no call), Ginny Hansen (no call), Sylvia Lattin (no call), Pat Taylor (no call).

 

President’s Report:

1.       Vice President, Deb Burud,  resigned.  Duties of VP include membership list, sending out new membership info, and taking over the meeting if President unavailable.

2.       Most members on intermittent have a position.

3.       Had our first meeting for negotiations and we presented the district with our requests.

4.       International Convention in San Francisco attended by Monica Shockency, Ivy Dumas, Vicki Hamilton and Deb Burud.  Hilary Clinton and Al Gore spoke.  Barack Obama spoke by satellite.

5.       Monica and Tom met with Dr. Green the week before.  Talked about payroll problems.

6.       Monica and Tom have a meeting with Peggy Ingvison on Friday. Aug. 29th to figure out how the new dues will be taken out of our paychecks.

7.       Introduced Paul Rohlfing who is the campaign manager for “Vote Yes”  regarding the referendum. 

 

Paul Rohlfing spoke to us about the referendum .  Their theme is “We Expect Education Excellence”.  They need volunteers for phone banks and to hand out lawn signs.  People are angry about what the state has done to our schools.  Health care costs are going up faster than inflation.  Our jobs and the kids will get hurt if referendum doesn’t pass.

 

Secretary’s Report:

                Motion to approve the minutes as presented was made by Lois Parker and seconded by Wendy Peterson.  Motion passed.

 

Treasurer’s Report:    None.

 

Business Agent’s Report: 

1.       District Health Insurance Committee met in July.  Only change will be annual deduction will rise from $750 to $1,000.    We still have fully paid single coverage.  There is a Memo of understanding for $250.00.  Motion to approve the memo of understanding recommendation of the benefits committee was made by Wendy Peterson and seconded by Lois Parker.  Motion passed. 

2.       AFSCME name not on the list for referendum endorsements.  Monica heard from Dan Loewenson and Dr. Green’s secretary when the list came out.

 

New Business:

Nominations for delegates to the Council 5 Convention Sept. 25-27 being held in Bloomington, MN.

Monica automatically goes.  Char Beyel was nominated and accepted.  Motion to pay for 2 days of lost time was made by Wendy Peterson and seconded by Nancy Ranallo.  Motion passed.

 

Old Business:  None

 

Motion to adjourn was made by Lois Parker at 6:04 p.m. and seconded by Char Beyel.  Motion passed and meeting adjourned.
